Pinworms are commonly found in play areas containing sand. The transmission to humans occurs when someone has played in the sand and gets the worm eggs on their hands. If they eat something without thoroughly washing their hands, the eggs are ingested and hatch in the intestines. The Pinworms come out of the anus and can cause severe itching esp. at night.

You can get worms or parasites from sitting or playing in sand. This would just occur if they were parasite or parasite eggs in the sand which typically would come from dogs, especially puppies, cats, or could come from goats or wild animals who defecated in the sand.
