My period started on sat. february 25 and ended 4 days later on wed. march 4th. my first pack of combination birth control pills arrived the next day thurs. march 5th and i started taking them that same day. am i protected from pregnancy?

Given the sequence described, waiting until your normal menstruation ended does not prevent ovulation 100% , so while unlikely, pregnancy is still possible. If there is no withdrawal bleeding during the placebo week, obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.
