A member asked:

I started taking birth control pills last month and just finished my sugar pills (period). im taking a new pack of pills right now and wondering how long it takes for the pills to resume high efficacy against pregnancy. a few hours? days?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Regardless of the "brand" of oral bcp's, if the"placebo" ("sugar") pills are taken for seven days, then a new series of active pills is started, the contraception afforded is 96-98 % effective in preventing pregnancy.
