A member asked:

Can heavy alcoholic drinking cause false negative antibody syphilis tests? especially when testing for very late/tertiary syphilis? does tppa/fta/eia lose sensitivity over the years and produce false negatives? like ten years post exposure?

There are no medical conditions, medications or drugs -- including alcohol -- that cause false negative syphilis tests. Once infected and positive, all the tests you mention remain positive for life, even 70 years later. (The nontreponemal tests like RPR and VDRL often become negative over time, with or without treatment. That's not false negative but means syphilis is cured or dormant.)

As I answered earlier time and alcohol will not cause a false negative.
