A member asked:

If hsv 2 is negative does this mean that both igg and igm are negative?

Not necessarily: Culture of hsv may be negative if the infected person is not sheeding the virus, the positive antibody suggests a past or recent exposure to the virus even when the virus is not detected by culture.

Testing for Herpes: Nope. These specific antibodies must be specified. Most screening tests just test for igg. But, if the doctor suspects a recent exposure the igm antibody can be added to this testing.
