A member asked:

I have a sore on my outer upper lip. my exposure to oral sex was 3 months back. today got the herpes serum antibodies test for hsv 1&2 which has turned out negative. does this mean i dont have herpes? so does this mean the sore is bacterial?

If you have had the sore most of the time since that exposure, you must be professionally evaluated in person: syphilis is possible. Herpes outbreaks never last more than 2-3 weeks. Your negative HSV blood test isn't quite conclusive, but it is strong evidence you did not acquire herpes 3 months earlier -- further raising the possibility of syphilis. Good luck.

herpes gives many small tender sores which can bubble and burst then heal in a few days. Try an antibiotic oint ment and if not better in a few days see you doctor

Sore could be a pus pimple if it breaks open to hot compress. Herpes is negative but you may not be safe next time unless you check out your partner. Always be aware of lesions on lips and surrounding areas.
