The predominant bacteria of the vagina are lactobacilli. You have staph and strep as the bacteria colonized in your vagina and this colonization can be present in ladies with chronic vaginitis. However, these bacteria are not considered STD bacteria, i.e. contagious. Colonized bacteria sometimes activate and cause active disease, i.e. acute vaginitis.
