A member asked:

Can syphilis cause hiv .?

No, these are two separate infectious conditions, syphilis from a spirochete, HIV from a virus. But you could contract both with one risky sexual encounter.

No, different infections, they can definitely coexist as STD’s and have to be treated separately. An infectious disease specialist may be needed. Syphilis is linked otherwise to an increased risk of HIV transmission.
