A member asked:

How is it possible for a non-sexually active virgin to get hsv 2 positive when they never kissed, had sex or anything orally?

I find the question curious. Is it reasonable to say you have never been kissed, possibly by a parent or relative in your lifetime? I doubt I could remember all such contacts, especially before the age of 3. If not you just picked up the germ at random. There are treatments available to reduce the frequency of outbreaks.

No test has 100% specificity, results could be false positive. Agree as above.

No, not possible, with very rare exceptions. HSV2 is only transmitted sexually, almost entirely by vaginal or anal sex, very rarely by oral sex, almost never by kissing (in part because oral HSV2 is rare). If you have had a positive HSV2 blood test, be aware that some low-positive test results are false. If tested, feel free to to ask a new question with exact test type and numerical results.
