A member asked:

Is it possible to tell how long ago someone had herpes for, if the results are positive igg for hsv 1& 2? once you have the virus, can it actually get worse if sexual intercourse is repeated often with no protection?

No, you cannot tell the timing of infection based on blood test. You can only tell when you have the symptoms with the primary infection. No, without condom you only increase the risk of transmission to your HSV-2 negative sex partner but the infection does not get worse by that.

Agree with Dr. Le. Cannot tell how long one got infected. Unprotected sex will not make herpes worse, but could give you more STDs. Get HPV, Flu and Covid vaccines. Wish you good health! Safe sex: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/safer-sex-guidelines
