Menstrual pain ?'s: If not currently on oral bcps, and a sudden onset of very painful menses occurs, at age 35, higher ovarian estrogen levels can make the lining of the uterus (endometrium) much thicker, and clots can more often occur which cause severe cramping as the uterus contracts to move the clot out of the uterus. See a gyn and ask about starting oral bcps again.
