If you have herpes and give birth can the baby get herpes or can it only get passed on with sexual intercourse?

During birth: The baby can get herpes in the birth canal during delivery if the mom is shedding the virus or has a lesion. We use prophylaxis with antiviral meds a month before the baby is born to protect.
