HSV prevention: Sorry, no test can tell when you are infectious for your partner. Risk of transmission depends on your herpes virus type (higher for HSV2 than HSV1). You can reduce risk by taking anti-HSV treatment with valacyclovir (preferred) or acyclovir and consistent condom use, and avoid sex if or when you have an outbreak. Partner can be tested to see if s/he is susceptible to whichever HSV type you have.
