Smoking:pregnancy ?: Throat infections are aggravated by nicotine/smoking, and can cause bleeding from the violent act of coughing. If you are pregnant, now is an excellent time to quit, since it can affect the baby's health, and that should be your prime concern. Get a culture of your throat from your ob provider: it could be streptococcal, and should be treated.

Pregnant: If there is minimal streaking of blood with mucous & it resolves fairly quickly that is one thing but if you are coughing up large amounts of blood or clots - that needs prompt assessment. It really can harm your unborn child if you smoke.
