Should not lower it: Taking the usual doses of any pain medication, such as Tylenol #3, should not change the effectiveness of a woman's birth control pills. Over-the-counter pain medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, or Excedrin also don't alter the effectiveness of birth control pills.
