HPV: 16 and 18: HPV 16 and 18 are much more likely if not treated to cause cancer of the cervix. If they were not found, there is minimal cause for concern. If your pap smear shows again that abnormal cells are present, there are excellent treatments for this condition. There are many other types of HPV, but all are treatable if persistent.

Relax some: Women have been getting pap smears for decades before we knew of a link to HPV 16/18 and lesser links to a few others. You can carry HPV in your system for decades & never have a problem, but maintaining the pattern of pap smears suggested by your doc will protect you. If/when these germs cause any problems you will have time to find & stop them.
