A member asked:

During routine pap smear and hpv test, does doctor usually only test for high risk hpv (16/18) or all strains of hpv? does hpv test detect low-risk hpv too?

Most labs do HSV-2 and HSV-1.It depends what the doctor orders and the lab too . He/she can specify what they want .

HPV test looks for high risk strains, it is more than just 16 and 18. Your lab can tell you what strains they test for. For general info, visit this site: https://www.cancer.gov/types/cervical/understanding-abnormal-hpv-and-pap-test-results
