A couple ....: ..of possibilities. I suspect piriformis syndrome. This pain is caused from pressure applied to the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle as it passes through or under this muscle. It can also be caused by nerve compression in the lumbar spine/sciatica. Stretch/strengthen of hip flexors/piriformis may help; consider visit to Sports Med/PT for instruction. If persists, pursue eval for sciatica.
