Prodrome: Initial stages are an inflammatory rash that burns, itches and are contagious. Recurrent form is a cold sore--starts as an irritation like chapped lips but only in one site. It progresses to a raised red swelling, followed by blisters that dry, crack and bleed. The cycle lasts 14-21 days. Protect self/partner with condom and dental dam for oral. Avoid sex in outbreak. 95% are always contagious.

Hsv1 and hsv2: Herpes simplex 1 signs are blister like sores around the mouth. Painful and annoying, and often red and unsightly. Simplex 2 symptoms are below the waist, blister like sores around the labia, or rectum. Simplex 2 symptoms can also include pain in the legs, waist, fatigue, irritability. Only sure protection is abstinence during an outbreak as it is very easily transmitted. See an md. Soon.
