Trying to pass a 1mm kidney stone & drinking water as instructed. feel the urge to urinate, but can't. feel discomfort in penis area. is this normal?

Yes. : If you are passing such a little stone.. all symptoms you describing are common. You can even see little blood in urine as a result of " scratch" injury if urethra on stone passage. . If you not able to pass stone/ symptoms lasting.. check with your MD in next 2 days.
