It's complicated...: Routine HSV2 testing is controversial. The blood tests aren't perfect, with potential for false positive results. Most experts agree testing is best limited to people at particularly high risk, e.g. symptoms that suggest genital herpes or regular partner with known HSV2. HSV blood tests are especially hard to find in Canada, where STD and public health authorities have strong bias against testing.
