A member asked:

A man has herpes and at times he uses aquaphor ointment or tea tree ointment to moisturize (non-outbreak times) can that cause a woman vaginal issues?

Yes: The vaginal tissues are very sensative and only water soluble products without dyes, perfumes, or deodorants should be used there. He can use them but they should be washed off well before intercourse. Hope this helps.

Possible Transmissio: If the outbreak is in the genital area, it is best to avoid intercourse to prevent transmission to his partner, assuming the partner is negative for herpes. Similarly, if this is an oral outbreak, oral intercourse should be avoided. The tea tree oil may cause vaginal irritation and sensitivity.
