A member asked:

Is prostatitis an std? can you pass that during intercourse? chlamydia and gonorrhea negative. what else cause prostatitis? after sex wife is complaining of on and off pelvic and abdominal pain.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prostatitis: This can be bacterial, or non-infectious, or due to organisms other than bacteria. It is not generally thought of as an STD but certainly some microorganisms may wind up in the prostate after being acquired sexually. It is not likely that you transmitted this to your wife and is responsible for her symptoms but she does need to be evaluated. Best wishes.
