Cold sores: Herpes(i think this is what you mean) type 1 is the main cause of oral cold sores that the first episode is often painful but if he immune system remains strong many times there might not be a recurrence or very few and far in between. If contacted with the genital area it can go to the genital area as well but not very common.

See below: Herpes simplex i causes cold sores and is spread from kissing. Herpes simplex ii is spread by genital contact. Type i can be spread to the genitals by orogenital contact as can type ii be spread to the lips.

Yes: They are all members of the herpesvirus family. There are 8 human herpes viruses and many many different animal herpesviruses. Except for herpes b, a old world macaque virus, none of the animal herpesviruses spread to people.
