Bloodtest: A blood test would show if you have been exposed to the herpes virus types 1 and/or 2 in the past. Once you have been exposed, the virus sits in your tissues and you can transmit the virus via kissing or vaginal intercourse. HSV 1 causes cold sores, HSV 2 genital herpes, although we see more and more women infected with HSV 1 that have genital herpes outbreaks.
