Shingles is caused .: By varicella-zoster virus which is a herpesvirus like herpes simplex 1 and 2 are. Not enough info to say what the blood test meant.

Need more info: Almost everybody tested for antibodies will have them for herpes simplex. You cannot reliably differentiate between types 1 & 2 because of cross-reactivity. The antibody test for the varicella zoster virus can be difficult to interpret because an igm response can be primary infection, reinfection or reactivation of the virus. Best diagnosed clinically and suspect you had shingles.

One and the same!: "shingles" is the lay description for herpes zoster, caused by the herpesvirus varicellae, which is the same virus that causes the lay term "chickenpox." so the accurate answer to the question "do I have shingles or herpes?" is yes. Genital herpes is caused by the herpes simplex virus.
