Will herbal supplements lower the effectiveness of birth control? i am on this herbal supplement called bell product #60 for skin disorders for my acne and i am starting birth control this weekend. just wondering if i can continue taking the herbal supple

Many : Many of the studies looking at herb-drug interactions are preliminary if available at all. I could not find any information about whether the herbs found in your supplement will effect the efficacy of your birth control. You should give your doctor a call to discuss your concerns. The safest thing to do would be to stop using the supplement. Good news, though. Birth control pills are often a very effective treatment for acne - so your skin may improve on the birth control pills even without the supplement. If after taking the birth control pills for a few months, you are still not satisfied with your skin, talk to your doctor about prescription acne treatments. These have been studied rigorously and their safety profiles and interaction profiles are well known.

Herbal : Herbal supplements do not require any studies to validate their claims. So there is no scientific peer reviewed data to know all the side effects or potential interactions with other medicine being taken. I recommend informing your physician of your concern and discuss with your physician.

Bell: Bell 60 contains fish oil, oregon grape extract, beet extract, sarsaparilla extract and juniper extract. These ingredients do not interfere with Birth Control Pills
