A member asked:

Is it normal to be afraid of a prostate exam?

Yes: Most men are a little anxious about having a prostate exam. It consists of the physician placing the index finger into the rectum to feel the prostate to assess for size, consistency, and nodules. This digital examination and a blood test called psa are screening tests employed to help detect prostate cancer.

Yes indeed!: To be brave, act brave. Just before the finger goes in, push down like you're having a bowel movement. It won't hurt so much. It doesn't feel nice and the idea is yucky -- but it's a life-saver.
