Yes: A herpetic lesion had an infectious stage when lesions are present. Most commonly, a herpetic lesion in the eye is transferred by touching the eye. But it is possible to transfer it via saliva. As a health care provider, we wear eye protection because an eye splash is just as dangerous as a needle stick.

Yes: Herpes simplex is often present in the saliva & is referred to as hsv-1. It can cause an infection of the cornea in the eye. Antiviral drops are prescribed to prevent scarring of the cornea.
