Please see doc: Sometimes rib/back muscle strains can cause pain like you describe, but... The nausea and the feeling of swallowing your tongue is concerning - that usually doesn't happen with simple muscle strains. Could this be referred pain from an ulcer, from the diaphragm, from the heart? Your symptoms are concerning enough that you deserve a thorough medical workup. Time to go to an urgent care or ed.

Esophagitis: Esophagitis or inflammation of the esophagus, the muscular tube that links the mouth with the stomach, causes pain under the breast bone bilaterally and sometimes radiates to the back. You may have acid reflux. Acid from the stomach going into the esophagus, irritating it and causing pain. I suggest going to see your physician.
