Exposure to germ: Syphillis is usually transmitted sexually thru contact with an infected person. That person may be asymptomatic and or have thought they had a flu like illness as their only symptoms. Risk of transmission is estimated at 30% per contact during the contageous phaze. Infected women pass it to their babies during pregnancy in the first years they have untreated disease.
