No: Nitrofurantoin, the active ingredient in Macrobid®, is not effective or recommended for treatment of chlamydial infections. The recommended treatments are azithromycin (Zithromax®) or doxycycline, with levofloxacin (Levaquin®) and erythromycin as alternatives.
