Meds& Constipation: Constipation with chronic pain or after surgery is a common due to the disruption of normal metabolism, and compounded by use of narcotic pain medications. It is important to stay well hydrated during this period (and stool softeners won't work properly without adequate fluid intake) and to walk as frequently as permissible (let your doctor and your comfort level be your guide).
