CAT scan OK: Bloody urine in a male can come from a bladder lesion, an enlarged prostate or a kidney growth. The sonogram has value in picking up larger lesions as well as stones but probably could not detect a small renal lesion. If there is any concern as to the origin of the bleeding which would require passage of renal calculi and severe pain, in the absence of other symptoms a CAT scan could help.

Stone: Kidney stones can also cause bloody urine not just pain.Your urologist is trying to assess the current status of the stones and if there is any other cause of the blood. Kidney cancer would, statistically, be very unusual at age 38. It is better to get the CT scan.Good luck.
