A member asked:

Why doesn't the cdc recommend routine herpes test for routine std checkup? is the test not important? or is herpes not dangerous?

No: Hey culture for herpes can only be done when there is an active outbreak. Blood titers can be tested, but they are not diagnostic of a current infection. It may only mean that you have been exposed to herpes at some point in your life, but does not necessarily mean you are a carrier.
