Don't panic: I am going to assume this is oral herpes. Most often seen as a "cold sore", a lesion on the lip that resolves in 10 to 14 days. It is caused by a virus. Most children are first exposed to this virus before age 5. While most times the first exposure is mild with mild flu like symptoms that often go unnoticed, a few children get severe, multiple sores, fever and general malaise.

Where ????: If it is a cold sore, it happens to lots of kids and your doc can help you understand how to manage the occasional outbreaks. If it is genital herpes, it means the kid has been molested by an infected person and you/your doc need to involve child and family services/the local authorities.
