No: Thick pubic hair is similar to thick hair on the head. If kept clean with gentle soap and water the hair should not have a discharge or smell. Waxing has many risks especially if the hair is thick. If you want to decrease the amount of hair trim the hair with scissors. The natural body is different from the airbrushed magazines.
