Not usually: If you have sickle cell disease and no other problems, and are getting a routine dental cleaning, you probably don't need anything special. You should check with your hematologist to be certain.

Yes: Certain blood work - i.e. Cbc, and a hemoglobin electrophoresis, - would need to be done to establish a diagnosis of sickle cell anemia.
