Better to dentist: Unless your local er is big enough to have dental staffing, they will be an interim stop for meds on your way to see a dentist. The best advice is a function of your access to care. If you have accessible dentists, that's the best choice either in private practice or in a community health center location. If not, get to the er to try to get comfortable and locate a dentist asap.

Call your dentist: Your dentist will be familiar with your teeth and know what and how to treat your toothache. The er will give you a prescription for meds and refer you to your dentist.
