MC fracture: Fractures, including the metacarpal, can be fixed by a variety of techniques. Non-displaced injuries can often be treated with a brace or cast. Internal fixation with plates, screws, wires are needed when the fracture is unstable or displaced. External fixation is also a rarely used option for severe injuries.

See Hand surgeon: Hand fracture assessment and management is best done by a hand surgeon as s/he will be able to give you all the options and choose the best option for you. In general an isolated 3rd metacarpal fracture tends to displace the least and is the easiest to manage with a splint or cast as the adjacent intact bones support it. Other options include kwires, screws, plates etc.

Metacarpal fractures: are treated with splints or casts or internal fixation. While some don't need much at all!. if you want to "fix" one you need either stainless steel pins called K-wires or similar or screws or plates with screws. The pins can be put in "closed" without incisions being made under X-ray guide but typically screws and or plates are put in via an open incision .

Varies: Treatment is based upon more description about the specific nature of the fracture and other factors also. Non displaced fractures often treated in cast or splint. Displaced fractures usually treated with reduction and pins or an open reduction and internal fixation with a plate and screws. Don't hesitate to discuss specifics of your case with your doctor.
