Depends: Most "liver cancers" are not from the liver but metastatic from other places. The prognosis will vary depending on the source and aggressiveness of the primary cancer. Also depends on the general health, the number of lesions, and how aggressive is the treatment given. A precious few patients can be potentially cured under the right circumstances and with the right therapy. Most, sadly, will not.

Short term: I am sorry to hear about you or whomever you are writing for. Stage IV liver cancer implies an advanced stage of cancer. The life expectancy is short, months not years. Think about an advanced directive so your wishes are honored. Find someone to help if you are no longer able make decisions.
