Consider treatment: In a recent study, patients with stage IV liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) were randomized to receive either a new drug (sorafenib) or a placebo (sugar pill). Patients taking the medication sorafenib lived about 11 months. Patients in the placebo group lived an average of 8 months. Every patient is different, but this is about what you could expect with no treatment. Speak with your doctor.
