A member asked:

I am prone to keloids and would like to have nose job done? would it be a good idea ? please advice

Probably ok: Most people that think they are prone to keloids simply have "unsatisfactory" but normal scars, not true keloids. True keloids are rare especially on the face and nose. Also, rhinoplasty ("nose job") can be performed completely from inside the nose so that there may not be any visible scars. Consult with a local plastic surgeon or facial plastic (ENT) surgeon.

No problem: Rhinoplasty can be done with incisions inside your nose that will not result in keloids. Inform your surgeon of your condition though.

Rhinoplasty: Keloids do not form typically on the nose. Be sure to consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in rhinoplasty.
