Indications for surg: There is no definite level of cataract or visual acuity that determines having cataract surgery. Mostly it is when the best corrected vision is still not good enough for performing activities of daily living. For instance, people who need to drive at night will need 20/40 vision or better. Incidentally, there is literature that concludes that having cataract surgery helps to prevent falls.

Maybe: Cataract surgeons will utilize a great deal of information to decide on whether cataract surgery should be recommended, and not just one variable. The appearance of the cataract and the vision are 2 important factors, but how these are affecting your visual functioning and your daily life are very important as well.
