Anxiolytics: Are often given in conjunction with nitrous oxide. Your dentist should be well qualified so follow instructions and do not over medicate. Hope this helps.

Good question for: The dentist. They will have policies and procedures in place to make sure they give you the right medications. Just be honest with your dosing history of the xanax (alprazolam) when you go to see them. Might be good to also ask what complications could arise from their treatment and how they handle them (e.g., if they have oxygen in their treatment rooms). Good luck.

Who suggested this?: If you are doing this without talking to your dentist first, don't. Depending on your state dental laws, your dentist may not be able to give you nitrous oxide (laughing gas) while you are also on xanax (alprazolam) if he/she doesn't have certification and proper monitoring to administer sedation. Never make decisions like this on your own.

If monitored: Yes, they can be used together. But you must be honest with your dentist about your dose so that s/he can monitor you appropriately.

The combination: During your dental procedure will be ok and is within the standard of care in a dental practice. Your dentist will take of you and monitor you during the procedure.

Talk to dentist: You can take xanax (alprazolam) before your dental appointment only under the direction of your dentist. Don't take a medication like this without discussing this with the dentist first. It is important that your dental procedures are done safely.

Xanax (alprazolam) / laughing gas: It is always best to check with the doctor who prescribed the xanax (alprazolam) so that he/she is aware of your drug combinations, frequency of these combinations and duration of each combination.

It is fine: They are commonly used together. The laughing gas (nitrous oxide) is used to adjust the level of sedation that the xanax (alprazolam) didn't do.
