Xanax (alprazolam): Xanax (alprazolam) must be gradually tapered, so that withdrawal symptoms can be avoided. There are other benzodiazepines which could be used also, but xanax (alprazolam) is a little different from them. The other issue that can arise is recurrence of the original anxiety problems for which xanax (alprazolam) was prescribed . Please work with your doctor to determine what's what with you, and see what's needed.

Hard to detox on own: Xanax (alprazolam) is hard to detox on your own and is better done with an expert. The best way to on your own is to decrease slowly over period of several weeks. There is a risk of seizures if you have been on it for while like months or years. Usually long acting benzodiazepines or tegretol is used for quick detox to take away severe side effects. Talk to your doc for help.
