A member asked:

Which is easier to treat and has a better prognosis, diastolic or systolic heart failure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prognosis the same: Systolic failure is when the heart squeeze is too weak. Diastolic failure is when the heart is thickened and stiff. Another way to look at it is systolic failure is a problem of the heart emptying out and diastolic failure is a filling problem. Treatment for both is blood pressure and heart rate control. Also controlling fluid intake. Prognosis for both is dependent on the severity.
