A member asked:

Hi my dad is in systolic congestive heart failure due to coronary artery disease. he has just been diagnosed with diastolic chf also. what does this mean? and does that mean his disease is getting worse? thanks?

I wouldn't assume any change in the diagnosis/stability based on the simple wording issue. Congestive heart failure just means the pump does not keep up with pushing blood through the system as needed by the level of activity. The backup results in fluid retention in specific sites. It can be assisted by meds but tends to get worse over time. Please ask the docs who treat him what this means.
