Possible bigeminy.: When premature beats occur frequently so they form every other beat, it's possible to feel as though one is experiencing a pause every other beat; it might be that the sensation you describe is this phenomenon. Ones doctor can often hear the pattern by listening to ones heart. In addition, an ekg and holter monitor test might be needed for accurate diagnosis.
