St j wort: Some preparations apparently innocuous such as st john s wort might act as an ssri, intefere with action of venlafaxine, interact or be sinergistic, etc. It is impossible to imagine all varieties of herbs and preparations; in short, always ask your dr before adding herbs etc. Good luck.

Pharmacists know: There could be a long list of possible interactions with venlafaxine because it's metabolized by liver isoenzyme 2d6 -- and there are many inhibitors of this isoenzyme. Some herbal and nutritional products that could cause interactions include st. John's wort, 5-htp, hawaiian baby woodrose, l-tryptophan, sam-e, black cohosh, goldenseal, & gingko. You'd need to consider the evidence with each.
